CHARLIE CLASSICS

Students are urged to begin
reading classics in junior high school; however,
they may begin participating in the program at any time. They will
begin
to accumulate their 100 classics for the Charlie Classics Scholarship
Award
during the 7th grade. Students who read 100 classics from the Charlie
Classics
Reading Lists will be eligible for the Charlie Classics Scholarship
Award
offered at the end of their senior year. On the junior high list,
classics
designated with an asterisk (*) will count toward the scholarship.
Scholarships
will be paid directly to the college or univeersity which the student
will
be attending in the fall. For a copy of the Charlie Classics

Procedure
|
To receive incentives, a
student must read and have mentored the books listed on the Charlie
Classics reading list. Junior high sudents may read from the Senior
High Charlie Classics Reading List, but senior high students cannot
read from the Junior High Charlie Classics List. Note: Only 10
Shakeseare plays will be accepted. Please see your English teacher for
details.
To receive credit reading a
bok, students must ask a mentor to verify that they have read selected
books and fill our a reading receipt. Photo ID may be required. Mentor
information is provided by English Teachers. The student will keep the
YELLOW copy of the reading receipt and deposit the white cop in the
boxes located in Senior High Library, Poplar Bluff Public Library, or
English teachers' rooms at Junior High.
To prove eligibility for
incentives, students must present the appropriate number of yellow
copies of their reading receipts to the English Department Chairperson.
Senior high students collect incentives from Mrs. Meyr; junior high
students collect incentives from Mrs. Surber. Note: Mrs. Surber
requires a reading log which students can obtain from their English
teachers.
THE DEADLINE TO RECEIVE
INCENTIVES IS MAY 10
Students who alter reading
receipts or otherwise present false information on reading receipts
will be ineligible to participate in the Charlie Classics Reading
Program.
EACH READING YEAR IS FROM
MAY 1 TO APRIL 30.
To be eligible for the
Charlie Classics Scholarship, seniors must bring 100 yellow receipts
and a completed reading log to the Claudia Foundation by 5:00pm
Tuesday, April 20.
